How to Improve the Precision of Laser Cutting Machines?

How to Improve the Precision of Laser Cutting Machines?

Factors Affecting Cutting Quality

1. Size of the Focused Laser Spot

The smaller the focused laser spot, the higher the precision of the laser cutting process, especially for smaller cuts, where the minimum spot size can reach 0.01mm.

2. Accuracy of the Worktable

The accuracy of the worktable determines the repeatability of laser cutting. Higher worktable precision leads to better cutting precision.

3. Workpiece Thickness

Thicker workpieces result in lower precision and larger cuts. The laser beam and the cut are both conical in shape, making the cut smaller for materials with a thickness of 0.3mm compared to 2mm.

4. Workpiece Material

The material of the workpiece has a certain impact on laser cutting precision. Even with the same material, different compositions can lead to variations in cutting precision.

High-Precision Techniques for Laser Cutting

1. Focus Position Control Technology

Controlling the focus position relative to the surface of the material is crucial. A smaller focal depth from the focusing lens results in a smaller focal spot diameter.

2. Cutting Perforation Technique

In most cases, a small hole needs to be pierced on the workpiece before laser cutting. This step is essential, except for a few situations where cutting can start from the edge of the material.

3. Nozzle Design and Airflow Control Technology

When laser cutting steel, oxygen and focused laser beam are directed through a nozzle onto the workpiece, forming an airflow stream. The airflow requirements include a large flow entering the cut, high speed to ensure sufficient oxidation for proper heat reaction in the cut material, and enough momentum to expel molten material.
